Dear Church Family: Have you ever wondered about the purpose of the church? In Revelation, John says that each church is a lampstand. Lampstands give light that drives out darkness and uniquely shine their light into the world. Writing to seven churches in Asia Minor, John affirms the unique gifts of each community, encourages them to build on their strengths, and challenges them to live their lives as Jesus did, loving all, seeking justice, showing mercy, and resisting the values of the empire. If John were to write to your faith community today, what would he affirm? What might cause him concern? How would he challenge your faith community to shine brightly for the sake of the world?
