Dear Church Family: It's always fun to hear a cover band play the songs of an old favorite artist. When they perform, we expect that they will play and sing the song just the way it was. Remix is different. Remix is when we take something from the past, internalize it, make it our own, and then express it in a familiar, yet renewed way. It is not unusual to find "remix" in the Bible. Many writers and even Jesus, picked up on familiar biblical themes and then packaged them in new ways. The book of Revelation is remix. We will end our series focusing on Revelation this Sunday---and consider how we might offer a remix of God's story in our own lives! (By the way, isn't it interesting that some folks use the cover band approach with regard to faith, thinking they have to guard tradition, presenting it in the same language with the same interpretation they perceive it has had until the beginning of time? And others engage in remix as they learn the tradition, internalize it and make it their own, and then express faith in a way that is flavored by their uniqueness?) Join us Sunday at 10 am.
