One:    Loving God, this is the day that you are making.

Many: Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

One:    You have raised Christ from the grave and overcome death.

Many: You have defeated the power of evil and oppression.

One:    We long for your presence, and we open ourselves to your Spirit.

Many: Christ, our living Chief, you are with us, and we give you thanks.

One:    We look for signs of your rising; and we live in a world that longs for your living presence.

Many: Breathe your Spirit into us, and raise us to new life,
that we may be living evidence of your resurrection,
the Body of your risen Christ. Amen.

HYMN OF PRAISE    Christ is Alive,                                W&R #312, Vs. 1,4,5

UNISON PRAYER                                                                                  Marcie

Resurrecting God,
when the risen Jesus appeared to his disciples,
he offered them signs of peace,
and breathed his spirit on them.
Breathe your Spirit into us,
and grant us seeing hearts,
that we may live as your faithful disciples,
and offer peace and healing in a broken world. Amen.

GOD SPEAKS TO US

MOMENT WITH THE YOUNGER CHURCH                                    Pastor Jill

READING FROM ACTS                                Acts 5:27-32                Marcie

27 When they had brought them, they had them stand before the council. The high priest questioned them,

28 saying, “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you are determined to bring this man’s blood on us.”

29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than any human authority., 30 The God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.

31 God exalted Jesus at his right hand as Leader and Savior that he might give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

32 And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.”

READING FROM THE GOSPEL          John 20:19-31                     Pastor Jill

19 When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors were locked where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

20 After Jesus said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” 22 When Jesus had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” 24 But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.

25 So the other disciples told Thomas, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”

26 A week later Jesus’s disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

27 Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book.

31 But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

Angel Care Team volunteers needed.

We are trying to re-imagine how the Angel Care team will evolve to meet the needs of the congregation and our volunteer capacity.  If you are available to be a phone buddy or are able to make visits in person this would be much appreciated.  We currently have volunteers for in person visits for 4 months.  Let the office know if you are available to volunteer.

Worship Service volunteers needed
We need readers, ushers, greeters, tech staff and coffee fellowship servers through the end of the year.  Sign up is at the back of the sanctuary.

One Great Hour of Sharing

We participate in 5 conference wide offerings. We collect this offering during the month of April.  The United Church of Christ uses this offering to fund comprehensive development programs in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, food security, microfinancing, and women’s empowerment. By partnering with Global Ministries and international response networks, OGHS maximizes its impact. Your contributions help meet urgent needs while addressing the root causes of vulnerability, ensuring long-term, sustainable solutions for affected communities.

Virtual Giving Options: Online and Text
Check out our updated website: firstcongregationaluccalex.com.  Click on the word “Give” at the top of the screen.  You can also text (844)987-4483 to give to our general fund.  Please contact the office if you need help setting up a giving account online using our provider, Churchtrac.
